Soft and Juicy Gulab Jamuns – A Timeless Indian Dessert

Ingredients

For Gulab Jamuns

  • 1 cup khoya (mawa), grated
  • ¼ cup maida (all-purpose flour)
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp milk (or as required)
  • Freedom Refined Sunflower Oil for deep frying

For Sugar Syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • A few saffron strands (optional)

For Garnishing

  • Pistachios, finely chopped
  • Almond slivers (optional)

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Sugar Syrup

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 2:

Add crushed cardamom pods and saffron strands. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the syrup becomes slightly sticky.

Step 3:

Turn off the heat and stir in rose water. Keep the syrup warm.

Step 4: Prepare the Jamun Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine grated khoya, maida, and baking soda.

Step 5:

Add milk gradually and knead gently to form a soft, smooth dough without cracks.

Step 6:

Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into smooth balls.

Step 7: Fry the Gulab Jamuns

Heat Freedom Refined Sunflower Oil on low to medium heat.

Step 8:

Carefully add the prepared balls and fry them slowly, stirring gently for even cooking.

Step 9:

Continue frying until they turn uniformly golden brown.

Step 10:

Remove the fried jamuns and allow them to cool slightly for 1–2 minutes.

Step 11:

Transfer them immediately into the warm sugar syrup and allow them to soak for at least 2 hours.

Step 12:

Garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds before serving.
