INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup Green Moong Dal (whole)
1/4 cup Chana Dal (Bengal gram dal)
1 Onion, finely chopped
2 Green Chillies, finely chopped
1 inch Ginger, grated
2 cloves of garlic, grated
Salt to taste
1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
Freedom Refined Sunflower Oil, for deep frying

METHOD

  1. Soak the green moong dal and chana dal in warm water overnight or for at least 5–6 hours.
  2. Drain the water completely, then grind the dals with very little water to form a coarse, thick batter.
  3. Transfer the batter to a bowl. Add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat Freedom Refined Sunflower Oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot, shape small portions of the batter into balls and carefully drop them into the oil.
  6. Deep fry on medium heat until the vadas turn golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove and place on absorbent paper to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve warm.
