Tomato Moringa Pachadi Recipe – Healthy & Flavourful Andhra-Style Chutney

Tomato Moringa Pachadi is a nutritious Andhra-style chutney that combines the tangy goodness of ripe tomatoes with the health benefits of fresh moringa (drumstick) leaves. Packed with flavour and traditional spices, this wholesome pachadi makes a delicious accompaniment to hot rice, idli, dosa, chapati, or millet-based dishes. The natural earthiness of moringa leaves blends beautifully with the tangy tomatoes, creating a chutney that’s both tasty and nourishing. Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh moringa (drumstick) leaves, cleaned
  • 3 ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp urad dal
  • 4 dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • Small piece of tamarind
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Freedom Double Filtered Groundnut Oil

For Tempering

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Freedom Double Filtered Groundnut Oil

Method

Step 1:

Heat 1 tablespoon Freedom Double Filtered Groundnut Oil in a pan.

Step 2:

Add chana dal, urad dal, cumin seeds, peanuts, and dry red chillies. Roast until golden and aromatic.

Step 3:

Add garlic cloves and sauté for a minute.

Step 4:

Add the moringa leaves and cook for 3–4 minutes until they wilt and the raw flavour disappears. Moringa leaves are commonly sautéed before grinding to improve flavour and texture.

Step 5:

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

Step 6:

Add tamarind and cook for another minute.

Step 7:

Allow the mixture to cool completely.

Step 8:

Transfer everything to a mixer jar, add salt, and grind into a smooth or slightly coarse chutney as desired.

Step 9:

For tempering, heat 1 teaspoon Freedom Double Filtered Groundnut Oil in a small pan.

Step 10:

Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dry red chilli. Let them splutter.

Step 11:

Pour the tempering over the prepared pachadi and mix gently.

Step 12:

Serve with hot rice, idli, dosa, chapati, or millet rotis.
