If there is one breakfast recipe that is both tasty and healthy at the same time, it is definitely PesarattuUpma- whole Green Gram lentil  (moong dal) dosa stuffed with Upma. It is one of the traditional dished of Andhra Pradesh. PesarattuUpma is also known popularly as MLA PessarattuUpma. Made famous by the MLA’s during the 70’s as they used to order Pesarattu with Upma; the combination gave an awesome taste. It tastes amazing with the ginger chutney and coconut peanut chutney.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gms Whole Unhusked Green Gram
  • 10 gms Chopped Ginger
  • Salt to Taste
  • 20 gms Green Chillies
  • 100 gms Onions
  • 10 gms Cumin
  • 30 gms Coriander Leaves
  • 75 gms Freedom Refined Rice Bran Oil

Method:

Pre-Preparation:

  1. Soak Green Gram in Water for 5 hours
  2. Drain all but one cup of water and grind it to a paste by adding ginger, salt and green chillies.
  3. Add water and mix it to a thick batter, add cumin & coriander leaves to the chopped onions and keep aside.

Preparation:

  1. Keep a thick iron griddle (Tawa) on a flame, spread a spoon of oil over the tawa. Take one full ladle of batter, pour it on the pan and spread it out like a thick pan cake and simmer it. Add 10 gms of oil around the edges and cook it on a medium heat.
  2. Sprinkle some oil, chopped onion mixture in the middle of the pan cake and spread it around.
  3. When the Pesarattu is well cooked and the edges turn crispy, place one spoon of Upma and fold over into half.

Remove Pesarattu from the pan and sprinkle some water on the pan to repeat the same for making next Pesarattu.
