5 Things that can go wrong while frying & How to Avoid Them

Scared at the thought of a pot of scalding hot oil? We are here to help you through the sessions of deep-frying without a drop of fear, sweat or oil on your face!

Here’s how to avoid the 5 common frying errors in the kitchen

  1. You could be using the wrong frying pot. Make sure you fry foods in a deep, nonreactive, heavy pot which has high sides. This ensures even heating and even cooking of the food, and avoid filling the frying pot two-thirds full with the oil!
  2. You might be frying food at the wrong temperature. Most times the food you fry turns too dark on the outside and remains cold and raw inside? This is because the temperature of your oil is too high and you add cold food into the pot without setting the food a side on the kitchen counter to room temperature before frying and also without checking the temperature of the oil.
  3. Your dried foods end up limp & greasy.Make sure you check the temperature of your oil before frying foods so they come out crispier and absorb very less oil.  The higher the temperature of frying oil, crispier the result. Consider using a thermometer to monitor the temperature of your frying oil, always!
  4. Hot oil splatters when you add food to fry.Make sure you de-thaw frozen foods or anything that is defrosting or boiled, place it on a kitchen towel to take off any excess moisture and water droplets to avoid hazardous hot oil splattering in the kitchen. Also, use tongs to gently place your food for frying in the hot oil!
  5. You may be using the wrong type of frying oil.The key to frying foods crispy and non-sticky is to use the right neutral oil with a high smoke point such as rice bran oil, peanut oil or vegetable oil. Our recommendation is the rice bran oil, because deep frying requires a lot of oil and it can be reused too! Simply strain back the oil when it’s cool, for reusing the next time.

Here’s our best tip: Freedom Physically Refined Rice Bran Oil has so many wonderful health benefits– it has a good balance of MUFA & PUFA that helps controls your cholesterol levelsand it is one of the best cooking oils used and recommended for deep frying foods. It has low viscosity and does not make the foods heavy; it is lightly absorbent and does not leave any oily residue on your fingers!
